Short Mat Bowls:

The deficit going into the second leg of our Alan Wright trophy match against Yarnscombe on October 19 was 31 shots.  We fared better in the return match but still went down by 10 shots, although there was a win for John Gouldbourn in the singles and a creditable draw for the fours.  Yarnscombe players were gracious in their victory and we all had a very pleasant evening.  The Goodleigh team wishes Yarnscombe good luck in the remainder of the tournament.

Forty six teams have entered the Mary Kent Memorial triples knockout tournament and two of the three Goodleigh entries were drawn against one another.  The match produced a win for the team of Des Adams, John Cole and Colin Withey and they will progress to the next round.

Goodleigh Cherries were in action last Thursday, October 20, away at Bratton Fleming Buzzards in the afternoon triples league.  Represented by Des Adams, Peter Webb, John White, Reg Pincombe and John & Julie Cole, the team enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with the final score being 32 – 30 in favour of the home side, giving Bratton Fleming 2 points and Goodleigh 1.  Mazzards play Thursday, October 27, at home to South Molton Millers, and again next Thursday, November 3, at home to Shirwell Martins.

Tarka Trial:

It is Sunday, October 30, that the annual Tarka Trial motoring event passes through the area.  Vehicles will be in the vicinity from about 1pm – 2.30pm
